01 Feb 12 | THE Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) has hit back at a group of scientists after they condemned its draft plan for the basin’s future. The Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists criticised the draft Murray-Darling Basin Plan in a submission to the authority last week, arguing it manipulated science to “engineer a pre-determined political outcome’’.

Town outraged by vandalism
25 Jan 12 | Vandals have attacked the Coleambally cemetery, in an act believed to have occurred at the weekend. Council workers found the mess when they arrived on Monday morning to work on the grounds.
25 Jan 12 | DARLINGTON POINT’S iconic Coolibah Cafe will reopen its doors sometime next month after six years of standing empty and neglected. Councillor Gordon Beaumont purchased the building last November and started renovations immediately to give the old building the tender loving care it needs to return to its former glory.

Altina Wildlife Park is reaching out to the public for help to name its two new female maned wolf puppies which are the first to be born in Australia in seven years.
18 Jan 12 | HEALTH authorities have renewed warnings for locals to take extra precautions and protect themselves against mosquitoes following the detection of the Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE) in the region. The MVE virus has been detected in sentinel chickens located near Leeton, Hay and Moama, NSW Health said last week.
18 Jan 12 | AUSTRALIANS are being urged to place blood donation at the top of their New Year’s resolution lists in 2012. The Australian Red Cross Blood Service will need 1.4 million donations in 2012 as the nation continues to rely on just 3 per cent of the population for its blood.
