“I HAVEN’T seen water lying around the house and farm like this in the 28 years I have lived in Coleambally.”
This is what Coleambally farmer Marg Burge told The Observer after Sunday afternoon’s downpour.
“My husband, Keith, believes it is only the third time he has seen similar effects since his family moved to the area in 1960,” Mrs Burge added.
The rain that fell on Sunday afternoon was widespread across the irrigation area with 19mm at farm 574, Yamma and 37.8mm at the Murrumbidgee Demo Farm between 4pm and 6pm.
In the Coleambally township, measurements recorded varied from 38mm in Bluebonnet Crescent to over 50mm in Sandpiper Street.
Many locals made fun out of the water pooled on the streets, riding bikes and splashing through the puddles.
