Amy Pokoney, community relations co-ordinator at the Cancer Council NSW’s South West regional office is once again urging the community to join up and support this year’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is one of the Cancer Council’s major fundraising events that helps reduce the impact of cancer in the community. It also gives supporters, their friends and colleagues an opportunity to get together and support loved ones affected by cancer.
Ms Pokoney said each year they’re amazed at the way Coleambally embraces Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
Last year the town raised $469.
“Last year 755 residents from the South West hosted a morning tea, which enabled the Cancer Council to fund research, prevention and support services including the Cancer Council Helpline 13 11 20 and our one-off financial grants of $300 available to cancer patients and their families.”
Whether you have experienced cancer first hand, or are supporting the 1400 people diagnosed with cancer in the South West each year, the Cancer Council NSW is encouraging people of all ages to join forces by having a cuppa for cancer.
While the official date of Thursday, May 22, more than half a million people from NSW are expected to sip their way past last year’s total of $4 million by participating in morning teas all throughout the month of May.
“And this year, for the first time, people who are unable to participate in a morning tea can still support the cause by having a ‘virtual cup of tea’ by making an online tax-deductible donation. For information, call 1300 65 65 85 or visit www.biggestmorningtea.com.au
