Coly powers up with help from the sun

18 Aug, 2010 05:50 PM
COLEAMBALLY is edging towards the title of having the most solar energy power panels per capita after five new systems were installed on local rooftops last week.

In one of the first projects to come out of the CREATE group, Sparks Energy was in town last week to install the panels.

Together with the chamber of commerce the CREATE project gives local groups and individuals the advantage of bulk buying power when considering installing solar systems.

Last week along with three private residents, panels were also installed on both the Coleambally Community Club and the Coleambally Community Bank roof tops with 45 panels on each.

In total the five systems will generate enough electricity in the next 12 months to power nine houses.

As part of the project, display panels will be installed at the club and bank to show the amount of energy being generated and how much is going back to the grid.

Due to NSW Government incentives called Feed in Tariff, power generated by solar systems is purchased at 60c per kilowatt hour by Country Energy and the five systems installed last week will earn $27,000 in revenue each year.

The chamber of commerce and CREATE are now looking for expressions of interest for the next round of installations.

If you would like to find out further information or are interested in installing a system please contact Lyn Stuckings.
