Education boost

08 Feb, 2012 05:00 AM
THIS year 14 applicants were successful in receiving grants towards their costs for university and TAFE courses in 2012.

These costs include such items as accommodation, travel, texts, internet fees, university student and amenities fee and specialist equipment.

Their certificates were presented by Lisa Glastonbury, representing the Origin Foundation, a major supporter of the Country Education Foundation of Australia, last Tuesday at the Coleambally Community Club.

This year’s grant recipients are Greg Alvaro, Jessica Anderson, Tom Burge, Sophie Johnson, Hannah Kelly, Lachlan Kelly, Helena McCalman, Shelayah McMillan, Claire Chauncy, Sam Casey, Jack Fraser, Cory McMillan, Ellie Brain and Kelsey Lokan.

The foundation wished them every success in achieving their goals knowing that their community is behind them.

Sponsors for this year were also acknowledged with a certificate of appreciation.

These included the Origin Foundation, Coleambally Community Bank, Murrum-bidgee Shire Community Demonstration Farm, Coleam-bally Central School P&C, Griffith Education and Business Advisory Council, Senator Fiona Nash, Coleambally Newsagency and Penny Sheppard.

Without the wonderful support of the sponsors, the

foundation not be in a position to offer grants for post-secondary school education.

As the CDP CEF enters its second year on a high note, it is hoped the program will be able to continue but that depends on support for Coleamablly’s youth from within the community.

The committee continues to fundraise but relies heavily on donations.

Donations are tax deductible.

The next major fundraiser will be a bush dance on May 26 at the Coleambally Community Club.

It is sure to be a great family night for all to enjoy. Tickets are $15 per head or $40 per family.

More details from organisers are expected to be released soon.

If you would like to know more about the Country Education Foundation, please contact any of the committee members: Keith Burge, Ken Martin, Elaine Clarke, Penny Sheppard, John McFadyen, Sue Inglis, Terry Inglis and Eddie Rooks.
