John’s service to region rewarded

24 Feb, 2010 01:54 PM
JOHN McInnes was last week recognised by Murrumbidgee Shire Council for his years of service to local government.

Murrumbidgee Shire mayor Phillip Wells presented Mr McInnes with the award at last week’s council meeting.

Mr McInnes has served for over 43 years on local government both in Murrumbidgee and Leeton.

He served time as a general councillor as well as a number of years in the top job of mayor.

“The contribution that John has made over the years to the local area has been huge,” said Mr Wells. “I have enjoyed working with him in his efforts to make our community a better place.”

In accepting his award Mr McInnes also recognised the support from his wife Eileen.

“She has also made a big contribution to the community through the great support she has shown me,” said Mr McInnes.

“I have been proud to serve on council and to bring together one of the oldest towns with one of the newest and turn it into a great community.”
