Mystery surrounds pool closure

09 Dec, 2009 09:56 AM
WHAT was happening at the Coleambally pool this week?

Council staff contacted The Observer on Monday afternoon to report that a

vandal attack had occurred

at the Coleambally pool and that they were preparing a media release about the incident.

It was suspected that a chemical had been dumped in the pool at some stage before Monday morning and that the pool would be closed until further notice.

Staff were concerned about the matter and called it a “malicious act of vandalism”.

By Tuesday morning council had closed ranks and was no longer willing to make a comment about the issue.

However the pool remained closed.

The Observer contacted the police Local Area Command on Tuesday morning to see

if any incident had been reported.

The Sergeant on duty

said that there had

been no incident reported to police.

Regular pool user Judy McGown was told she could not use the pool on Monday morning.

“I was told that the pool was shut as the chemical levels in the pool weren’t right and were all over the place,” Ms McGown said.

There have been a number of other reports of vandalism in the Coleambally area in recent times.

Bill Irvin from the Coleambally Newsagency has reported signs being stolen from his shopfront on at least two occasions and the Coleambally Senior Cricket Club has had its sign stolen from the shed at the cricket oval.
