The Graziers’ Association of NSW, Graziers’ Association of Riverina and United Farmers’ and Woolgrowers’ Association amalgamated in 1978 to provide a united voice for the representation of farmers. “We are very proud of our association and the people involved in it. We have a proud history, and we look forward to celebrating some of this history throughout the year,” NSW Farmers’ Association president Jock Laurie said.
While the association’s main celebrations will be held at annual conference in July, Mr Laurie said he would love for people to get involved now.
“We would like members to write to us with their memories or stories of the association to create an oral history beyond the realms of paper telling us about policy and lobbying activities,” Mr Laurie said.
The association is also seeking the person who has held the longest continuous membership of the association or any of its original organisations.
“It would be great to have this person at annual conference, so whoever can prove they are the member we’re after, will win a trip to Sydney in July for the Associations’ Annual Conference,” Mr Laurie said.
While the NSW Farmers Association is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2008, its origins date back to the 1890s with the Farmers and Settler’s Association.
