THEY’RE a little bit unusual in fact they’re two of only nine in the whole country and after 14 weeks in the world they still don’t have names.
Altina Wildlife Park is reaching out to the public for help to name its two new female maned wolf puppies which are the first to be born in Australia in seven years.
Like many sisters, the puppies have very different personalities and until now, senior animal keeper Rebecca Surian said staff have been referring to the animals as “our little miracle” and “our little terror”.
“One just loves human attention, she’ll happily come up to you and spend time with you,” Mrs Surian said.
“The other has a huge personality but she is all bluff, when you go to pat her she’ll put her ears back and her head down.”
Mrs Surian is asking for as many name suggestions as possible, with pretty, sounding, easily pronounced South African names preferred.
The suggestions will be put to the managers and staff of Altina who will narrow it all down to just a handful of names.
They will then ask the public to vote on the two best names for the girls.
“We’ve had quite a few suggestions already,” Mrs Surian said.
“We didn’t want just one winner which is why we’ve put it to public vote, so everyone feels included.”
The challenge has been running for the last week, so people have at least another week to put forth their suggestions by emailing info@altinawildlife.com or adding them to Altina’s Facebook page.
