EACH year, the Coleambally Arts Council holds a music recital with the aim of giving students with addresses in the Murrumbidgee and Jerilderie shires the opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
Through the generosity of local community groups, the arts council is able to award performers cash prizes to assist with their tuition and musical supplies.
Last Sunday, 16 music students performed violin, piano, accordion, guitar and drum solos, and group performances included a handbell ensemble and rock band performance.
At the end of the day, violinist Matthew Teusner won the $250 major prize in the open section. Sam Wiseman, on the piano accordion, and pianist Nathan Wiseman earned second place and highly commended respectively.
Sam Wiseman also won the sacred song section, with Jane Wiseman winning the novice section on the piano, followed by Hannah Pow and vocalist Lisa Turner.
Encouragement awards went to Bronwyn Kemp, Natalia Burgess, Lucy Wiseman, Aaron Pow, Caleb Wiseman, Reagan Alvaro, Kieran Fraser, Claudia Thompson and James Fraser.
Six-year-old Jennifer Pow performed a lovely exhibition piece and Phoebe White and Lisa Turner delighted the audience with dances while the adjudicators were making their decisions.
The Coleambally Arts Council thanks all who participated, attended and sponsored prizes in its recital.
