Top rice crop is predicted

03 Mar, 2010 11:06 AM
COLEAMBALLY farmers, harvest contractors and haulage operators are firing up their machinery for the 2010 rice harvest.

According to Mike Hedditch from SunRice around 4200 hectares of rice has been grown in Coleambally this season.

From this, SunRice is expecting the harvest to produce 45,000 tonnes of rice from local growers.

This figure is around twice as much as last years harvest and many irrigators and contractors are hoping that this trend will increase in coming years.

All deliveries this year will be made to Walsh Shed and the first round of deliveries is expected around the third week of March.

With many contractors and farmers feeling positive about this harvest it looks like being a good boost to the area both in morale and economics.
