Women and kids’ charities benefit

THE Coleambally Argoon CWA held its August meeting two weeks ago at the Coleambally Community Club.

The first order of business was the distribution of funds to support some of the many worthy projects which assist in making life a little easier and safer for women and children.

A reminder was issued that applications for the state education grants must be handed to secretary Bev Rose by Friday, September 10, so that they can be forwarded to the state executive.

A wonderful report on the recent Sturt Group meeting in Narrandera was given by Dorothy Meyer.

All members have been asked to knit 10-inch squares, which will be joined together and made into

rugs to be distributed locally.

At the Group international function, Vicki Mannes displayed her magnificent scottish wedding cloak, which was the star of the day.

In the cultural display Bev Rose was awarded first place in the photography section.

At the local meeting, Vicki Mannes was presented with her CWA registration card, making her an official member.

The branch has suggested New Zealand be the country of study for 2012, and for 2011 rice be the primary product and Macular Degeneration the medical research project.

There will be no branch meeting next month as all CWA branches statewide will be celebrating CWA awareness day on September 8.

The local function will be at the community club from 1.30pm to 3pm at which members will showcase CWA with information and a number of activities highlighting the many aspects of CWA.

The branch birthday will also be celebrated, commemorating 37 years, as well as the branch international function.

The whole community is invited along to the day.
