THE Coly Nomads took on Leagues Club on Saturday night under lights and very grey skies. Fortunately the clouds did not open and the game went ahead as scheduled.
Captain Craig Mark lost the toss and the Nomads were sent into the field with Josh Shaw and John Byrne opening up the bowling.
Both were bowling good line and length and Byrne was soon rewarded taking a wicket in his third over with a good catch by Justin Redman behind the stumps.
Byrne backed this up with another wicket in his next over and Leagues now stood at 2-20 off eight overs.
Shaw bowled with some real heat and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket finishing with figures of 0-12 off his four overs.
This brought the master destroyer David ‘Bazza’ White to the wicket and he and Guy Kelly decimated the Leagues batting with both bowlers picking up wickets at will.
White took a massive five-wicket haul along the way and Kelly picked up three for a miserly eight runs off five overs.
This left Leagues at a very deflated all out for 59.
With the small total to chase proceedings did not start out well for the Coleambally batters with Bernie Cullen out in the second over for six.
‘Pocket Rocket’ Graham O’Connell then joined Dave White at the crease and he seemed to be in a hurry to get to the bar slaying the Leagues bowling to all parts of the ground.
White was the next wicket to fall for eight and the Nomads now stood at 2-35 off 10 overs.
Andrew Boal joined O’Connell and these two comfortably took the Nomads past the required runs in the 15th over giving the local men another resounding win by eight wickets.
O’Connell finished on 31 not out and Boal on 11 not out.
The S&K Engineering man of the match award went to Dave White for his brilliant bowling finishing with 5-23 off seven and a half overs.
The Nomads will finish off the home and away section of the competition with a bye next week and standing at the top of the ladder four and a half games clear of the nearest team.
The only cricket for next week will see the C grade play a home game at No. 3 oval.
The C grade team are also sitting on top of the ladder in the competition and will be vying to take the minor premiership
in their first year in the Griffith competition.
The cricket club is encouraging everyone to come down on Saturday and support the young cricketers.
