Exies stumped by Coly’s 130-run win

25 Jan, 2012 06:30 AM
Coleambally took on ladder leader Exies 14 in a long-awaited round eight clash.

In blistering heat the Nomads won the toss and elected to bat.

With the opening partnership of Dave White and Bernie Cullen, the Nomads looked unstoppable with the pair putting on 64 runs until White was dismissed for a well-earned 24.

Todd Clark joined Cullen at the crease and while Clark was taking his time getting his eye in, Cullen was belting deliveries all over the park while on his way to a half century.

However, Clark couldn’t keep up with Cullen and was dismissed for five, bringing Jacob Breed to crease.

The young player didn’t disappoint, making his mother proud in the stands by reaching a new high score in B grade and also bringing up a 50-run partnership with Cullen until he was gone for 12, leaving the Nomads at a comfortable 2-147.

Cameron McFadyen was back from holidays and immediately made an impact with a textbook shot around the ball being bowled for a duck.

Next was Sam Casey and he was hoping to bring an end to a series of ducks in his last game for the season.

Casey brought the goods alongside Cullen, who was closing in on his big ton.

Unfortunately for Cullen he was controversially dismissed lbw as some would say for 94, eliciting outrage from the crowd.

With 10 overs to spare, Casey powered into a solid 19 runs and Graham O’Connell made his way to 18 runs with shots that had no technique in them whatsoever.

Tom Fuller put in a quick 6, Charlie Wythes 3, Josh Shaw 0 and Andrew Boal was left stranded on 0.

Nomads were all out for 207.

With the game looking to be wrapped up, the Nomads wanted to get things done quickly.

Shaw and McFadyen opened the bowling. The only wicket early came from lightning fieldsman Clark, with a pinpoint throw running out the batsman for the first wicket.

Fuller was next to try his luck and was able to pick up a couple of wickets alongside McFadyen and started to rip through the Exies’ batting line-up.

After the drinks break O’Connell tried his luck with the ball and struck gold by picking up three wickets, finishing off the game with figures of 3-8.

Fuller finished up with 4-23 and McFadyen 2-14.

The Nomads won by 130 runs.

Coleambally Nomads would |like to thank all their sponsors and invite everyone to come down to the annual six-a-side competition on Sunday for a fun-filled day.
