 Leagues clout Coly

Leagues clout Coly

14 Dec, 2011 01:10 PM
ROUND 10 of the Griffith and district B grade cricket competition saw the Coleambally Nomads take on the Leagues Club, which saw the Nomads in a tight tussle with the in-form Leagues side.

Coly won the toss and elected to bat and, hoping for a positive start, the Nomads started with the experience of Michael Hodgson and Craig Mark – looking to make amends for last week’s defeat – the Nomads began dreadfully with the scoreline reading 4-6 after five overs.

Something special was required in order to at least make the score line respectable, let alone defendable and a 26-run partnership between Andrew Boal and Charlie Wythes saw the total become respectable until Boal was bowled for nine runs.

This left Adam Mannes to join the crease with Wythes, who unfortunately failed to worry the bowlers, getting dismissed for an unlucky duck.

With only four wickets remaining, the Nomads managed to string a few partnerships together and make a total of 94 through Wythes class innings of 45, Jebb Hutchison, 9, and Tom Fuller, 15, to create a defendable total and chance to snatch a victory.

With a small total to defend, the Nomads needed results with the ball as quick as possible and unfortunately it was one of those nights going the Leagues sides’ way, with several possible chances just inches away from the Coly fielders allowing the Leagues side to create a commanding run rate.

Although the Nomads put up a fight in the field they were beaten well-and-truly by five wickets, with bowlers Tom Fuller, Andrew Noack and Andrew Boal picking up a wicket each and Michael Hodgson picking up two late wickets.

The Coleambally Nomads would like to thank all their sponsors for the season and encourage everyone to come down to training for the last game before the mid-season break.

They would also like to congratulate the C grade Nomads for winning their third successive game of the year. The young guys are showing some good signs for the future and with this added bit of confidence they should build on this promising start to the season and grow individually and as a team to become a threat for the title.

So get behind your local Nomads and get down and show your support at the next game this Saturday.
