LAST weekend the Coleambally C grade boys travelled across to Jubilee Oval at Griffith for their round 10 game against Coro.
After their sporadic captain surprisingly won the toss, the Coly boys elected to bat.
The opening partnership of Andrew Noack and Adam Mannes started the game off well, scoring freely until Noack was out early for six, and soon after captain Mannes was dismissed for 19, with very ordinary shot selection.
This bought Cameron McFadyen to the crease and he was just as quickly back in the sheds with a duck, leaving the score at a worrying 3-28.
Next was the partnership of Jake Breed and Sam Casey, which was in great touch and lifted the team morale with some good batting and smart cricket.
They took the score to 4-64 before Casey was dismissed for a well-made 19.
Todd Clark was next up to the crease and proceeded to treat the bowlers with no respect, with some big hitting before being dismissed for 10.
The wickets of Shawn Iddles and Mitch Wiseman were then lost cheaply, taking the score to 117.
But some smart batting from Lachlan Dunbar (3) and John Mcfadyen (4) saw the scoreboard move up to 131, which was the team’s final total with Breed unluckily dismissed for a majestic knock of 49 and Chris Noack not out on zero.
With a decent total, the Coly boys were confident heading out into the field, which showed, with Cameron Mcfadyen striking the stumps with the first ball of the innings.
Some good tight bowling from McFadyen and Andrew Noack kept the runs down and applied early pressure.
The first change bowlers of Adam Mannes and Sam Casey continued on with the early heat with some fiery bowling and both getting two good wickets.
Also on display was some stunning fielding from flamboyant Chris Noack resulting in a run out.
Lachlan Dunbar, Shawn Iddles and Todd Clark all rolled the arm over and bowled good lines, but it was a combination of Mitch Wiseman’s bowling and some brilliant outfield work from John McFadyen, who surprised everyone by holding on to a terrific catch in the deep.
Late in the game Coro provided some resistance which started to trouble Coly with the chance of rain approaching.
This resulted in captain Mannes throwing the ball back to Cameron McFadyen and Jake Breed, with McFadyen picking up another wicket with the help of some good keeping from Sam Casey.
It only took Breed two balls to clean up the tail after catches from Casey and Mannes leave him on a hat-trick ball next game.
The end result was Coro all out for 87, giving Coly a 44-run win – their seventh straight.
Man of the match was Jake Breed.
Coly will try to extend its winning run in a fortnight as it has the bye this week.
