THE Coly Nomads took on Leagues Club on Saturday at Collina Oval and, after winning the toss, the locals elected to bat.
Fridge Cullen and Bazza White opened proceedings but disaster nearly struck straight away, when Cullen was dropped on the first ball of the day.
This proved costly for Leagues Club, as the pair took control scoring sensibly in the searing heat and taking the score to 0-62 at the drinks break.
After the break the pair stepped up a gear and started scoring freely, taking the partnership past a century before White was out for a well-compiled and patient innings of 33.
Shane Hutchinson joined Cullen but was soon out for seven, trying to up the run rate.
Justin Redman also came and went quickly for five, but the Nomads were still in control at 3-144 off 33 overs.
From this point the wickets continued to fall regularly and the run tally dried up, with Cullen the first to go for a great 68 runs.
Andrew Boal came and went for a duck, followed by John Byrne for seven, and the team tally stood at 6-152, with just three overs remaining.
Guy Kelly put some respectability back into the scoreboard, scoring 14, which left Shane Pound to score seven not out and debutant Cameron McFadyen stranded on three not out.
The Nomads’ final run tally off the allocated 40 overs
stood at 7-175.
The local team then went into the field quietly confident, which proved fruitful, with a great run out by Guy “Bucket Hands” Kelly in the third over.
Shane Hutchinson picked up a wicket in the unfamiliar position of opening spin bowler and finished with 1-12 off four overs.
Andrew McGown was also bowling without much luck until his sixth over, when he picked up a clean bowled and followed it with two more in the next over.
John Byrne also picked up a wicket when Cameron McFadyen entered the attack and bowled beyond his young age, showing the importance of bowling straight over excessive speed, and picking up a handy 3-4 off three overs.
Andrew Boal rounded off the attack and snatched the final wicket, leaving the Leagues Club all out for 50 and giving the Nomads victory by 125 runs.
Cameron McFadyen was awarded the Jukes Transport man of the match mug for his great bowling effort on debut for the B grade team.
Next week the Nomads have a bye. Players are reminded the C grade competition will resume with the local team playing a home game against Exies at 1pm on number three oval on Saturday.
