 Noacks pull off miracle win

Noacks pull off miracle win

24 Feb, 2010 01:09 PM
COLEAMBALLY C grade cricket took on Diggers on Saturday in what was a top-of-the-table clash at Beelbangera in perfect cricket conditions.

Captain Adam Mannes again lost the toss and the lads found themselves in the field first with Cameron McFadyen and Andrew Noack opening the bowling attack.

McFadyen started out with two maidens and Noack only took until his third over to claim the first of his three wickets for the day.

At the first bowling change the opposition was 1-19 when Mannes and Todd Clark took over.

Mannes finished off his four overs with figures of 2-7 and Clark was able to get a wicket off his first ball.

On his fourth ball McFadyen took a nice catch in the gully and Clark finished off his spell with 3-13 leaving the Diggers on 5-29 after just 14 overs.

Sam Casey was then brought on to bowl from the northern end and maintained the pressure on the batting team with a tidy spell of 0-9 of three overs.

Lachlan Dunbar then came into the attack for one over of blistering pace which resulted in Mitch Wiseman throwing down the stumps at the bowlers end and catching the batsman well short.

At the drinks break Diggers were struggling at 6-47 with the Coly boys firmly in control.

Clark completed his spell before McFadyen and Noack were brought back in to the attack to finish off the tail with Noack picking up two more wickets and sizzling fielding by Sam Casey producing a run out for the last batsman leaving Diggers all out of 73.

The Coly boys went into bat confident of chasing down the total.

Mannes and Jacob Breed looked like settling in however Breed was comprehensively bowled for six bringing Noack in and the confidence levels lifted a notch when he hit the second ball he faced away for a boundary.

Mannes was also cheaply out for one, Clark also

came and went for one with Casey and Wiseman also dismissed in the same over each with ducks.

The confidence level had now dropped dramatically with Coly at 5-27 and things only got worse with Shawn Iddles and Cameron McFadyen also falling for ducks giving the team plenty of options for kit-packing duties.

Lachlan Dunbar then played a beautiful pull shot over mid-on for one before being stumped while going for a little dance down the wicket.

John McFadyen was run out in comical circumstances having

not faced a ball when he was tripped by his own pads when the strap broke while going for a third run.

With the side reeling at 9-34, Chris Noack walked to the middle with the smart money being on Diggers, however the two Noacks set about building a partnership and securing the 40 runs needed to win.

With a couple of lucky escapes the pair pulled off a miraculous move scoring the winning runs in the nineteenth over with Andrew finishing on 41 not out

in a match-winning performance and Chris on 17 not out

giving Coly the victory by one wicket.

Next week C grade will play a home game against Hanwood

and everyone is encouraged to come down and support the local team.
