Nomads battle in search of glory

19 Dec, 2007 08:17 AM
After losing the toss the Nomads were sent into the field.

The Yenda side got off to a good start, taking the score to 30, before Tom Burge struck and wickets started to fall.

Yenda was taken to 4-47 before they tried to take the game away from the Nomads, taking the score to 4-81 at drinks, before the Nomads applied the brakes to reduce Yenda to be all out for 124.

Bowling figures for the Nomads were – Andrew McGown 7-1-24, Josh Shaw 7-0-23, Tom Burge 7-4-21, Craig Mark 5-1-31, Michael Hodgson 5-3-10 and Jackson Painting 3-0-12.

The Nomads then took to the crease, batting under lights for the first time this season and they got off to a good start, until Dave Dunbar was out for 5 with the score on 15.

This brought the Burge brothers, Tom and Alastair, together and these two were harder to break than a rock.

They played all the shots in the book, taking the score past 100, until Alastair was given out lbw for 22.

Painting then joined Tom and they took the Nomads past Yenda’s score at 2-126, with Painting (9) not out and Tom on a superb 63 not out to take out the Tops Pizza player of the week award.

Saturday then saw the Nomads take on the second-placed Coro Cougars.

The Nomads batted first with Dunbar and Andrew Denton Boal opening proceedings.

They took the score to 18 before Dunbar was gone for 14. Tom Burge then joined Boal and they took the score to 38, with Boal being bowled for 11.

Alastair Burge joined his brother, Tom, and they were looking for another big partnership, but this was not to be with Alastair out for 2 at 3-48.

Justin Redman then took over from Alastair and he and Tom put on a good partnership of 50 before Tom was gone for a good 36 backing up from his 63 not out the night before.

McGown then came in and he and Redman took the score to 5-115 before Redman was out for 32.

Painting came together with McGown, but McGown was next to go for 11 leaving the Nomads shaky at 6-123.

But this brought in captain Nathan Jones and he and Painting smacked the ball around, with Nathan scoring a quick fire 53 off 20 balls until his luck run out with the Nomads now 7-196.

Craig Mark came and went for one leaving Painting and Josh Shaw to bat the over’s taking the score to 8-232 off their 40 over’s with Jackson not out 41 and Shaw not out for 12.

The Nomads then took to the field full of confidence with such a high score to defend.

Wickets fell regularly with some great bowling and fielding and the Nomads were able to restrict the Cubs to a very meagre score of 84 giving the Nomads a 148 run win.

Bowling for the day was Josh Shaw 5-1-16, Andrew McGown 6-1-23, Nathan Jones 6-4-22, Tom Burge 4-2-14, Rohan Stimson 1-0-3.

Nathan Jones took out the Tops Pizza award this week.

With these two huge wins the Nomads now sit in second spot on the ladder with the Nomads taking on their brother side in the Exies this week at Griffith Showground No 2 oval.
