THE Exies Nomads B grade side took on fifth-placed Yoogali on Saturday at Collina under very grey skies.
Continuing his season form, skipper Craig Mark again lost the toss and the local team was sent in to the field with Tom Fuller and Shane Hutchinson opening the bowling on a deck which was very wet at one end.
Both bowled tightly but it wasn’t until the end of the seventh over and with the score sitting on a low 11 that Fuller made a breakthrough which started an avalanche of wickets.
Guy Kelly took over the attack from Hutchinson and he too wreaked havoc for the batters and was on a hat-trick at one stage.
Kelly was unlucky to miss the hat-trick, getting another wicket on the very next ball.
Fuller finished with the great figures of 4-11 off eight overs, while Hutchinson ended with 0-2 off four overs.
That left young gun Cameron McFadyen to help Kelly close out the Yoogali innings.
McFadyen finished with 1-8 off five overs but the star of the bowling was Guy Kelly with 5-5 off 6.1 overs, leaving Yoogali reeling at a poor 26 runs and all out from just 21.1 overs with extras the top scorer on nine.
Dave “Bazza” White and another C grade young gun Sam Casey were entrusted with the small run chase.
However, Casey didn’t fare too well, out for a golden duck in the second over.
With the clouds looking ominous Shane Pound was sent in to finish the game off quickly and he didn’t disappoint, overhauling Yoogali’s score in the sixth over with Bazza White not out for two and Pound scoring a quick-fire 22.
This gave the Nomads a nine-wicket victory and sealed the minor premiership for the local team for the second year in a row.
Guy Kelly was awarded the Tim’s Meats man of the match award for his brilliant 5-5 bowling figures.
Next week Nomads take on Exies Diggers in a day/night match on Friday.
Any locals who are in Griffith on Friday night are invited to come along and watch some great cricket.
