Nomads register a ten-wicket victory

10 Feb, 2010 10:31 AM
THE Coly Nomads took on cellar dwellers Coro Cougars on the weekend on a damp Coly pitch due to the rain during the week.

Again captain Craig Mark lost the toss and the home team was sent into the field.

The Nomads opened up the bowling with an unusual partnership of Michael Hodgson and Tom Fuller, with Fuller bowling without much luck and Hodgson picking up two wickets with his “cream puffs”.

The Nomads couldn’t penetrate the usually fragile Coro batting with John Byrne, Josh Shaw and Shane Pound all going wicketless and the visitors sitting pretty on 2-46.

After the drinks break Bernie Cullen and Nathan Jones finally took over the attack, picking up wickets at will along with “dead eye” Bazza White, who claimed a run out.

Guy Kelly took the last wicket to have Coro all out for 87 off 36 overs.

Despite batting at a snails pace the Coro side did well to keep the ladder leaders out in the field for most of the day.

The Nomads took to the crease confident of overhauling the target with Bernie Cullen and Bazza White opening the innings.

The pair completed the game with ease hitting numerous boundaries and although both received lived during the innings the victory was always in site as they passed the target in the fourteenth over giving the Nomads a resounding win by 10 wickets.

Cullen was awarded the S&K Engineering Man of the Match with bowling figures of 3-6 and 37 not out with the bat.

Next week the Nomads will take on fifth place Yoogali at Collina and with only four rounds left in the normal season more wins for the locals will help to secure the minor premiership.
