Nomads resume season on a high

20 Jan, 2010 11:33 AM
THE Coly Nomads resumed the season after the Christmas break two weeks ago, with a very lucky one-wicket win at home against last-placed Yenda.

The Nomads continued their winning ways last Friday night in Griffith against Hanwood Colts.

The day-night game saw the Nomads take on the fourth-placed Colts and were sent in to the field after losing the toss.

The Hanwood side got off to a flyer at 0-20 off four overs, but after that the wickets started to fall regularly, with Josh Shaw picking up a wicket and then Andrew McGown claimed consecutive scalps in his fifth and sixth overs.

Dave White continued his miserly bowling and finished with 2-6 off five overs. John Byrne also picked up a wicket, which left Shane Pound and Craig Mark to finish off the Hanwood innings at 79.

The Nomads then took to the crease hopeful of chasing down the small total, but disaster struck early with White out for one.

Andrew Boal joined Fridge Cullen at the crease and these two looked in control until Boal was out for eight leaving the Nomads 2-39.

Graham O’Connell then joined Cullen at the crease and they took the score to 52 before Cullen was out for a well-compiled 25.

Shane Pound came and went for one, leaving the Nomads lookinga shaky 5-53.

Craig Mark scored four before he was bowled and the Nomads were 6-66, still requiring 14 runs for victory.

But O’Connell and Michael Hodgson took the score past the required total, with O’Connell scoring a free-flowing 25 not out and Hodgson six not out.

The win leaves the Nomads at the top of the table, and

two games clear of the next side.

Bernard Cullen was awarded the Pumps, Pipes and Power player of the match.

Next week the Nomads take on Leagues Club at Collina.
