Round 13 saw the Coleambally Nomads take on arch rivals Hanwood at the Hanwood sports oval in what was generally a tight game of cricket.
With the Nomads losing the toss, Hanwood elected to bat, sending the Nomads out into the heat to field.
To start the bowling attack the Coly side went with Josh Shaw and Nick Wood.
With a scary bowling attack for the batsmen it didn’t take long before the Nomads had Hanwood’s batting line-up looking shaky. Within the first nine overs, Shaw and Wood picked up two wickets each, taking the score to 4-27.
The first bowling changes were made with the introduction of Tom Fuller and Dave White and they instantly paid dividends with Fuller taking a wicket on his second ball thanks to the catch of the year from Guy Kelly. This took Hanwood to 5-35.
Unfortunately the wickets dried up for the Nomads, with Hanwood at 5-60 at the drinks break.
But all was about to change as Hanwood were bowled out within four overs, Fuller picking up another two wickets and White the following three. Hanwood were out for 77, leaving what looked to be an easy total.
To open proceedings, Coly sent White and Sam Casey out to bat, looking to get a solid start. The boys looked in shape until Casey forgot to hit the ball and was bowled for a clean duck, leaving Todd Clark to join the crease.
Clark and White began to build a commanding partnership with some textbook shots from Clark. The pair took the score to 24 until Clark was out LBW for 10.
Next to the crease was young Jacob Breed and unfortunately he couldn’t find the stellar form he’s been having in C grade, getting out for three runs.
With the next three wickets of Charlie Wythes, John Byrne and White being dismissed for a total of one run between them, the Nomads looked vulnerable at 6-31 until Andrew Boal steadied the innings a little with Nick Wood until Boal was gone for nine runs, taking the score to 7-46 and bringing Fuller to the crease.
Wood decided it was time to get the game moving, dispatching deliveries all over the park and dismissing any hope of Hanwood winning. He unfortunately got caught for 22 with only four runs needed for victory. Guy Kelly came out and got the job done, leaving Fuller on five not out and Kelly on six not out.
Nomads won by two wickets.
Coleambally Cricket Club would like to thank all their sponsors for the season and their next game is in Griffith against Exies this Saturday.
