Price praises spirited Blues

24 Aug, 2010 02:56 PM
IN THE last game of the season the Coly Blues travelled to Albury to face the Murray Magpies on their home turf.

Prior to the seniors game, coach Sean Brooker paid tribute to president Phil Price for his seven years in the position at the club and urged the players to “do it for him”.

The players came out firing and no doubt left a lasting impression on a number of the Magpies, who will have to front up for the finals next weekend.

After a spirited and determined display the Blues went down by six points but if the game had been five minutes longer the result could have been different.

Mr Price said after the game that he appreciated the effort and that he felt it was one of the team’s best games of the year.

Best players were Andrew McGown, Graham O’Connell, Jason Heath, Jay Pound, Mitch Barry and Aaron Hardie.

Goals went to J Heath (4), S Pound (3), A McGown (2), N Jones, G O’Connell and T Clarke.

Reserves battled all day against an experienced side and were unable to come up with a win.

Best Players were Blake Wiseman, Adam Boag, David Dunbar, Nick Donnellon, Brett Barry and Dean Chauncy.

Goalkickers were A Boag, N Donnellon and R Thurgood.

Magpies didn’t field an under 17s side so Coly had an automatic win.

The under 14s was an exciting game with many thinking Coly might come away with a win but Magpies prevailed 71-44.

Best players on the day were Jacob Breed, Jack Smith, Matthew Mannes, James Lyell, Lachlan Dunbar and Ryan Mannes.

Goals went to J Breed (2), M Mannes, R Mannes, C Black and J Boag.

The winner of the Blues’ major raffle of two tickets to the AFL grand final, donated by Rubicon Systems Australia, and two nights accommodation was John McFadyen and the second prize of a lamb, donated by Robert Black, and a keg went to Chris Mannes.

All club members and supporters are reminded that the Blues will be catering at the final on September 4.

A bus will be going to the game and will leave Coly at 8am from the pub car park.

Also a reminder that the junior presentation will be held on September 5 for the Auskick players and the under 14s starting at 11am.
