COLEAMBALLY made it back-to-back wins in their 16.9 (105) to 7.14 (56) win over Rennie at Coleambally Sportsground on Saturday.
In a hard-fought contest, the Blues dominated possession in the second half which allowed them to run away with the game after only eight points separated the teams at half time.
The first half was a physical encounter with neither team able to spread the ball away from the middle of the field.
Blues Secretary Danny Graham was taken aback by the torrid way the game was played in the opening half.
“It was a willing game early,” Graham said.
“Most games have a tough start for the opening 10 minutes but this lasted for the entire first half.
“It was a tough battle and both teams got as good as they gave but when things calmed down a bit we were able to take control which was pleasing.”
Graham attributed the Blues’ win to the experienced and level headed play of the team.
“Once the game settled down, we held our nerve and controlled the run of it,” Graham said.
“During the second half, we played some good footy and that showed with us kicking 10 goals to three.”
“We had a number of on ballers out which meant we were lacking in structure, but I thought the boys stuck at it well.”
The Blues will be boosted for their next game by the return of players Carl Pound and Tony Pound along with Joshua Shaw.
For the Blues, Damian Mannes celebrated his 300th game for the club and was named one of the best on ground.
“Mannes again played well,” Graham said.
“He is very humble but he has been one of the great players we have had.”
The Blues second win of the season sees them remain undefeated after they had the bye in the opening round of the competition.
