Mixed results for junior Roosters

14 May, 2008 12:53 PM
The DPC under 7 team’s first game was against Leeton White.

Zane played well all game and came away with two tries and one goal and also tackled hard.

Jack scored a try and Callum kicked a goal.

Dakota ran and tackled well all game as did Tom. Jack Cullen also pulled off some crunching tackles in this game. The score was 16-all.

Our second game against Narrandera was a great team effort with lots of passing and some great tries.

Try scorers were Tom (1), Zane (3), Jock (1), Callum (1) and Dakota (1). Goals for the game went to Jock (1) and Jack Cullen getting his first points with one goal.

Zane played well all game, as did Jock and Dakota. Samuel tackled well and Betty gave her, best as always. Thanks team.

Coleambally/Darlington Point under 9 team remains unbeaten with two hard fought wins over very willing Griffith Green and Griffith Gold sides.

In the 11am game against Griffith, DPC was victorious 26-10, after leading 10-0 at half-time.

Tries were scored by Robbie Harrigan (2), Zach Fitzpatrick (2), Brody Morris and Pat Bowditch, with Joel Ridley and Zach both making conversions.

Game two at noon, against a fired up Griffith Gold side, saw the Roosters victorious 26-18, after leading 10-8 at half-time.

Tries were scored by Pat Bowditch, Robbie and Joel with one apiece, while Zach crossed for two tries.

Joel converted two tries with Brody also adding the extras.

The under 10 team ran on to

the field ready to play football and didn’t stop for the entire match.

In a standout game, Banjo Rogers scored all seven tries for the day.

He ran hard all day, scoring two great individual tries.

In a great team effort, Banjo was able to run off some great passes from Jai Lyons, Matt Kelly and Josh Boag, scoring three more.

Banjo also snuck in two sneaky dummy half tries in the absence of Matt Wilson.

The boys tackled well all day, with Bradley Knight stepping up to do some great tackles.

Bradley also ran the ball really well all day, gaining some good ground when needed.

Kelsey Fraser did well with a great run but was wrapped up by a much bigger opponent; she did well to come back on.

The goal kicking was much improved, with six out of seven attempts converted.

Goal kickers were Josh Boag, Bradley Knight, Sam Smith, Jai Lyons, Matt Kelly and Billy Watkins.

It was with much excitement that we watched the DPC Brolga Hotel under 10 side make an appearance on the Sunday

Roast football show on WIN last Sunday.

The show highlighted the great effort from one of the three Hillston boys who have joined us this year.

Billy Watkins lives 100 kilometres on the other side of Hillston and makes a 500-kilometre round trip to play junior rugby league each week; that is a great effort.

The under 11 team played Griffith Gold first up on Saturday, defeating it 8-4.

Luke Hogan scored two tries. Best players were Tom Hogan and Kenny Harrigan – both were good in attack.

Noah Bellato and Bradley Lyons also played well.

In the second game, the Roosters were defeated 24-4 by Leeton.

Luke Hogan was the tryscorer for this game.

The standouts for the day were Luke and Lukas Brain.

The Bendigo Bank 12s had a very even contest against Hay.

The game went from try line to try line with no one able to score in the first half.

After another blockbusting run through the middle of the pack Linden Gibbs was able to get over the try line to put the Roosters up 4-0, which was the final score.

Gage Grace had a blinder of a game, being involved in everything. Charlie Black also played really well on the wing, saving many tries with his solid defensive work and also making plenty of ground with the ball.

Patrick Thelan was good defensively in the middle of the field, as was Jack Burnett.

Trey Eldridge and Rohan Carter made good ground up the middle.

The Jacob’s Creek under 13 team again had a strong game of footy, defeating Griffith 26-10, to give it its fourth straight win.

Jaden Clark once again had a strong game but was well supported by Ben Hogan, who was rewarded for his efforts with two tries.

Other try scorers were Jaden, Dustin Wickey and Kieran Cates. Goal kickers were Jayden, Kieran Cates and BJ Lyons.

The Darlington Point Clubs 14s had a slow start to their game.

With a poor defensive effort the Griffith team was able to get away to a 20-0 half-time lead.

The boys, however, came back from the half-time break ready to play and actually outscored their opposition in this half to end up 26-14.

Even though they lost the game, the second half of the game shows that the team can beat the opposition if it is committed for the whole game.

Lachlan Evans had a strong game in defence coming off the line to meet the opposition. Bo Grace and Dylan Gilbert also had strong games.

John Williams had his usual good running game and scored two tries, with Jerome Doolan scoring the other two. Jaden Clark converted a goal.

There is a general bye this week for the Country Championships being held at Lavington.

Many local boys will be playing for the Group 20 rep teams in the 12s, 13s and 14s, which will play Group Nine, Group 10 and Group 11. Good luck to all concerned.

The following week, May 24, is the YAHS Knockout.
