After months of training, coach Steve Knight was very pleased his team could give the top side a scare.
With two quick tries scored by Leeton in the opening minutes, it looked as though the Roosters were in for a sound beating. However, Hannah Kelly scored two runaway tries and Jessie Burns scored one under the posts.
Amy Dunbar had an unfortunate injury and was carted off the field on the stretcher while giving everyone the thumbs up. Cindy Bootes then scored a great try.
The score at half-time was five-all.
The game was fast and the girls subbed around often.
Leeton were too good in the second half and put three more tries on. However, a try from Jess Painting, who side stepped four players to get to the line, saw the final score pretty close and the girls were very happy with their game.
The whole team played really well; Margot Chauncy and Sally Carroll especially tagged well.
Jade Burns and Jodie Grieve tried hard all day, as did Georgia Young and Alysia Hopwood. Hannah Kelly was outstanding and claimed best and fairest and players’ player.
Final score: Leeton 8 d DPC 5
