ON Saturday February 9 the quarter finals of the 2008 President’s Reserve Singles Championships were played at Coleambally with the following players taking part: Kevin Coster (Coleambally) vs Peter Townsend (Leeton District); Anthony Preston (Whitton) vs Graham Hardy (Coleambally); A Harrison (Narrandera) vs Rex Thomas (Hay Golf and Bowls); Jim Bissett (Hay Golf and Bowls) vs Jon Perrin (Leeton Soldiers) with P. Townsend; G. Hardy; R. Thomas and J. Perrin advancing into the semi finals that were held on Sunday February 10 at 9.00am.
After two very close games Graham Hardy 31 won over Peter Townsend 22 over 35 ends and Rex Thomas won 31 from Jon Perron 15 over 28 ends.
In the afternoon of Sunday the final was between G. Hardy and R. Thomas and after 32 ends Graham Hardy won over Rex Thomas 31 points to 19 points to become the 2008 President’s Reserve Champion, which enables him to advance to the Zone 8 tournament.
The President of the Riverina Bowls Association, Mr Jon Perren presented Graham Hardy with his winning badge and the local club President, Kevin Coster, presented Graham with a small gift from the club for his win.
Thanks must go to all the markers from the weekend, these being Peter Dunbar, Vic Bellato, Marty Dunbar, Kevin Coster and Colin Carter also to the umpire for the weekend, Chris Leonard.
From all the bowlers involved a special thanks to the ladies for the luncheon that was put on for the Sunday personnel.
Twilight bowls for 2008 started and will be held every Wednesday evening starting at 7.30pm with names into the club no later than 7.00pm.
On Wednesday February 13 at 6.00pm there is to be a special meeting for all bowlers before the twilight bowls.
The selectors of the men’s bowls are reminded that there will be a meeting at the club at 6.30pm to discuss Pennant’s and club championships for the 2008 season, these being Kevin Coster, Chris Leonard, Martin Dunbar, Barry Payten and Colin Carter.
On Saturday February 16 the St Peter’s Church will be holding a social game of three bowls triples played over two games of nine ends starting at 6.00pm, names must be in by 5.30pm, individual entries. There will be a Sausage sizzle starting at 5.00pm, $10 for adults and $5 for players under 17 years of age.
