Karate students do sempai proud

17 Feb, 2010 01:50 PM
IN December last year, five karate students from the Coleambally dojo participated in the final grading for 2009.

As previously reported, Joshua Hodgson underwent his first grading when Sensei Frank Cirillo, head instructor from Griffith, made a visit to Coleambally.

The following week Harry Firth, Jordan McCalman, Angus Cartledge and Starr Cartledge headed to Griffith for their grading.

Over several hours, Sensei Frank tested their knowledge of basic techniques, combinations and kata interspersed with his renowned fitness drills that leave even the fittest gasping for breath.

After all this there was sparring, with the number of fights required increasing with a student’s grade.

All students performed extremely well, making their local teacher Sempai Michelle Brain extremely proud.

The new belts were handed out last week with Harry receiving blue belt black tip (7th kyu),

Jordan his blue belt (8th kyu), Angus his red belt black tip (9th kyu) and Joshua received his red belt (10th kyu).

Starr was also participating in her first grading, but Sensei was so impressed with her level of knowledge and execution of techniques that she was graded straight to red belt black tip (9th kyu).

Coleambally classes have resumed for 2010 on Mondays and Fridays at 3.45pm.

A new adults class is also being held on Mondays from 6.30pm to 8pm for anyone 15 years and over.

KickFit fitness class times are Monday 5.30pm and Friday 5pm.

Please contact Michelle Brain on 6954 8366 or 0458 789 787 for further details.
