ON Saturday December 10, Michelle Brain was honoured to be presented with her official black belt in Griffith by Hanshi John Taylor, 9th Dan and Australian Kyokushin Karate Association (AKKA) president.
This belt is a symbol of all the hard work Michelle has done over the past seven years and has her name, in gold Japanese kanji, sewn into it.
Michelle is the first Coleambally resident to obtain their Kyokushin Karate black belt under AKKA and as the local instructor is now able to hold her own gradings.
On Thursday, December 15 the very first grading in Coleambally took place with four of Sempai Michelle’s young students attempting to move up the ranks.
Jack Harris and Paige Goudie were both attempting to get their blue belt (8th kyu) while Lachlan Stewart and Ned Harris were participating in their first grading, going for red belt (10th kyu).
The students performed very well and showed great Kyokushin spirit by persevering through sometimes difficult challenges, particularly with regards to stamina.
All were successful and are congratulated by Sempai Michelle on their great effort.
Thanks also go to Sempai Jayden who assisted during the grading.
Congratulations to all the Coleambally students who have worked hard all year.
Classes will resume in 2012 at the start of the school year.
Anyone interested in participating can contact Sempai Michelle on 69 548366 or 0458 789 787 for further
information.
