Roosters make Group 20 knockout final

27 Apr, 2010 05:32 PM
The Group 20 knockout at Leeton last Saturday signalled the start of the local junior rugby league competition.

The under 14s, with some new faces in the team, had a good start to the season, winning its first game against Hay by scoring first in a six-all draw.

In an even first half, the score was 0-0 at half-time but Billy Robb found a gap in the defensive line to run 40 metres to score early in the second half with Billy Gilbert converting.

In the second game, the boys defended well to keep opponent Yanco Ag scoreless.

Hayden DeMamiel and Trey Eldridge both scored good strong tries to bring the final score to 8-0.

The boys then met Griffith Panthers in the final.

The boys started off well with Matt Wilson scoring first after some good ball movement through the backline.

Gilbert converted to make the half-time score 6-6.

The local boys lost some momentum in the second half with Griffith scoring three quick tries to take the lead.

Robb then kicked and regathered to score his second try of the day, with Gilbert converting.

The final score was 20-12.

The boys all played well and with a bit more training and preparation should be strong in the coming season.

Blake Carroll played well all day, as did DeMamiel, Robb and Eldridge.

THIS season the regular under 9s players welcomed some new faces with Jarod, Mark and Austin coming into the team.

All players went well on the weekend with Thomas Fattore the standout, scoring six tries for the day.

Dakota Grace also scored a try.

Tom Bowditch, Jonah Foster and Anthony Toscan made a lot of very good runs and tackles.

Sam Bellato and Jake Boots played well and the whole team deserves congratulations on not giving up all day.

Next week’s CDP games will be in Griffith at the Exies Oval.
