WELL-known Darlington Point resident Shannon Smith was ordained deacon in St Alban’s Cathedral, Griffith last Saturday.
She has been an active member of the local Anglican parish for many years, with a special focus on children’s ministry and school scripture.
She has been preparing for ordination for several years.
Family and friends and parishioners gathered with her and the other ordination candidates for an inspiring service led by the Bishop of Riverina Douglas Stevens.
Reverend Smith will serve without pay in the Coleambally/Darlington Point Parish with local Rector, Rev Rex Everett, and she will also minister in the Griffith Parish.
She will also use some of her time to explore programs and initiatives that enable the church to enjoy the gifts and talents of indigenous people.
She has recently represented the Anglican Church at National and International Conferences on indigenous ministry.
The congregations of St Paul’s Darlington Point and St Mark’s Coleambally warmly welcomed their new deacon last Sunday as she began a new role amongst them.
