End of the road for fighting Roosters

08 Sep, 2010 01:12 PM
THE Darlington-Point Coleambally (DPC) under 16 Roosters took on Waratah Tigers in the preliminary final at Yenda last Sunday.

The game was a tough battle with the winner earning a place in next week’s Group 20 grand final against an unbeaten Lake Cargelligo side.

Play went from end to end, with some strong runs and intense defence by both sides.

The Waratahs were finally able to cross the line for a try and followed up ten minutes later with another to take their lead to 12-0 at the half-time break.

The Waratah’s big boys came out in the second half even more determined and were soon able to score again, taking the lead out to 18-0.

The CDP boys never gave up and continued with their strong defence and attack.

Brenton O’Brien, Ben Hogan and Jack Robb were strong all day, as was the defence of Lachlan Kelly and Jack Cottom-Lyons.

Thanks to some good teamwork, Kurt Hillier was able to use his speed to score out on the wing and Jamie Demamiel was successful with the conversion.

The Roosters were then able to score again with Dylan Gilbert crossing for a try.

However, the conversion was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 18-10.

The entire team continued to work hard against a much bigger side but the Waratahs were able to run away with it in latter part of the second half.

The final score was 32-10 in favour of Waratah Tigers.

Congratulations to the under 16 Roosters.

It was a great achievement to get to the preliminary final in such a strong competition.

Congratulations to coach Simon Fuller for a job well done.
