OUR first game in Griffith on Saturday was against Narrandera. As they were short of players, Jock Rogers played for them and did a fantastic job all game, coming up with a try and some great tackles. Thanks to Jock for being such a good sport. Darlington Point/Coleambally played really well in this game, coming away with a good win
26- 4. Ryley Carroll returned to the team and scored two tries, as did Zane from Hay. Tom Bowditch also scored a try and Samuel Bellato ran away to score his first try in football. Well done to the team.
The second game for the Under 7 side was against a strong Griffith side which eventually won 24-4. Zane was DPC’s sole try scorer for this game, good work Zane. Betty ran well as did Luke Foster.
The encouragement award went to Jock Roger for running hard in both games and sportsmanship.
The Under 8 team played against Narrandera in its first game, going down 28-4. Jarod Brain scored the only try, and was well supported by Laura Hogan, Georgia Hogan, George Payne and Jake Foster, who all made plenty of metres with some strong runs.
The next game against Leeton B was much closer, but a last minute try by the Leeton side meant that the Roosters went down by six, leaving the final score 26-20. Jai Riley-Coe, Todd Collins, Jarod Brain and Hayden Riley all scored a try each, and George Payne and Jai kicked a goal each. They were well supported by all their team mates, with Blake Mannes and Liam McKersie making some crushing tackles and Morgan Pierpoint who made some strong runs.
In the first round or regular competition, the Brolga Hotel under 10 side came up against a much improved Griffith side. All players played well and CDP were up 10-nil at half-time. Griffith came back after the break determined to get points on the board. Final score was a 14-all draw, Griffith scoring just before full time to even the score. Try scorers were Banjo Rogers (2) and Zach Stockton (1), Zach also taking out the goal posts with his try. Jai Lyons kicked a goal.
In a tough encounter with arch rivals Narrandera, CDP was lucky to come away with the win 18-16. All boys tackled well throughout the day and enjoyed their footy. Try scorers for this match were Luke Wilson and Jai Lyons (1) and Matt Kelly (2). The only goal kicked was by Josh Boag. It is great to see all teams in the under 10 division have had large increases in numbers, showing how popular Junior Rugby League is in the area.
CDP’s Under 11 side have had a great start to the season, with plenty of new and old keen footballers. The boys played Hay on Saturday, winning 40-14, with all boys trying hard. Try scorers were Luke Hogan (4), Kenny Harrigan (2). Bradley Lyons, Blake Carroll and Lachlan Archibald with one try each. Goals were converted by Blake Carroll, Tom Hogan and Luke Hogan. Best players were Blake Carroll, Tom Hogan and Kenny Harrigan.
In the second game, the boys played Griffith and with great team work in attack and defence defeated them convincingly 30-12.
Luke Hogan was a standout, scoring three runaway tries and he was well supported by newcomer Jack Reitano and the experienced Tom Young and Lukas Brain.
Try scorers were Luke Hogan (3), Blake Carroll, Kenny Harrigan, Bradley Lyons and Lachlan Archibald (1) each. Goals were kicked by Bradley Lyons, Luke Hogan and Tom Young.
The Under 12 side had a disappointing day going down to Griffith 34-4 in their first game. Billy Gilbert was the sole try scorer for this game after a length of the field run.
Their second game against Hay was a closer game, with both teams being more even most of the game.
Hay scored in the final minutes of the game to win 14-10.
Trey Eldridge and Hayden DeMamiel scored the tries and Billy Gilbert kicked the goal.
The boys’ second game was a much better performance from all the team, and once they settle down and get accustomed to all their new team members, they will start playing their usual game.
The Jacobs Creek Under 13 side had a great first round win against Griffith, with the final score being 70-8.
The boys played well together and were impressive throughout the game, with only 11 players.
Player of the match was the elusive Jayden Clark who scored eight tries for the game.
Other try scorers were Ben Hogan, Kieran Fraser and Kieran Cates. Goal kickers were Kieren, Jayden, Josh Knight, BJ and Mitch DeMamiel. Next week’s games will again be in Griffith.
The CDP Under 14 side once again played a strong game against Griffith, eventually going down 30-20.
Coach Dookie was very happy with the boys’ performance and with a few more games under their belts, they will be much stronger. Scorers were Lachlan Evans, Michael Rutledge, John Williams and Brendan Knagge.
Dylan Gilbert was the best player for the day and he was well supported by Blake Wiseman, Jack Robb, Michael Rutledge, Brendan Knagge, Dylan Hately and John Williams.
The Under 12 Group 20 junior rugby league team played the Parkes and District Invitational side last Sunday. The boys had a good day at Lake Cargelligo, with the game being played in good spirit. Dean Whitehead did a good job refereeing. Group 20 won 40-0 with seven tries and five goals. Scoring was shared, with Billy Robb the only one to get two tries.
Parkes and District had invited two players from each of their nine clubs and had only one training run. They got better as they went, threatening our line several times in the last 20, with the game played over three lots of 20 minutes.
Group 20 had no injuries but one Forbes boy (an ex Lake local) had a dislocated thumb and a couple of others had severe corks.
Parkes president Craig Ridley thanked the Group for putting on a good day and is keen to make it an annual event, possibly in West Wyalong next year. Group 20 provided a free sausage sizzle and a drink after the game for all the players.
