Junior league kicks goals

IN the first game of the Under 7’s Coleambally Darlington Point (CDP) played Griffith Green and went down 16-8.

Tom Bowditch and Dakota Grace both scored tries, with new comer Jack Cullen playing well.

Jock Rogers and Luke Foster also tackled and ran well.

In the second game CDP played Leeton Green and won 10-8.

Zane Gash and Dakota Grace scored tries, with Riley Carroll kicking a goal. Betty Dolan, Samual Bellato and Leo Fitzpatrick all played well.

A well-deserved winner of the encouragement award was Dakota Grace.

Thanks to Riverina Machinery for supplying the awards for the last two weeks.

In the first game, a much improved CDP under 8’s team come up against Leeton Maroon.

The score was close all game but eventually CDP went down 22-14.

Jake Foster, Hayden Riley and Todd Collins all scored one try each, and were well-supported, with some good runs, by Nick Gifford, Jai-Riley Coe. Some great defensive tackles were seem from Georgia Hogan, Liam McKersie and Morgan Pierpoint.

Jake Foster was a champion kicker, kicking the only goal for the game.

In the second game, CDP came out winners, beating Hay/Hillston.

Laura Hogan was a star in defence, as was Jarod Brain and George Payne.

Hayden Riley scored two tries, and Todd Collins scored one, with Nick Gifford kicking a great goal.

The combined side of under 9’s from CDP, Hay and Lake Cargelligo continued this season’s undefeated run, with two great wins last Saturday.

The first game against an enthusiastic Griffith Gold side saw the Roosters victorious 14-6.

Great runs from the front rower, Pat Bowditch, and slick back line running from Robbie Harrigan were a highlight, with Pat scoring one try and Robbie two tries.

Pat converted his only try and Tom Schiller also kicked a goal.

Special mention must go to the defence of all the Roosters, with copy book tackling from Brody Morris, Zach Richards, Joel Ridley, Zach Fitzpatrick, Tom Schiller, Luke Sheppard and Will Brown.

The second game against Hillston, CDP won 38-6 with tries to Zach Fitzpatrick (1), Pat Bowditch (2), Robbie Harrigan (1), Joel Ridley (1), Zach Richards (1) and Brody Morris also getting a try. Goals were kicked by Brody Morris, Zach Fitzpatrick, Ricky Riley, Zach Richards and Luke Sheppard.

Fantastic defence from the Roosters was the highlight of this game, with Hillston only scoring with two minutes left in the game.

Coach Ray Thorpe must be commended for his efforts with all boys showing improvement and great sportsmanship.

The Brolga Hotel under 10’s opening match for round two was against Leeton.

The boys played some great football in the second half to come away winners 24-12.

All boys combined well, with try scorers being Matt Kelly and Luke Wilson one each and Banjo Rogers using his speed to score two tries. The four goals were all well converted.

In their second game against Griffith, the boys had a hard fought game to win 22-18.

Griffith recruited well and it took great defence and attacking skills by the CDP boys to beat them.

Try scorers for this match were Banjo Rogers with another two, and one each for Jai Lyons, Luke Wilson and Billy Watkins.

Banjo kicked the only goal to finish a great day of football.

The CDP under 14’s played a great game this week against a strong Leeton side.

The teams were fairly even throughout the game with the Leeton side scoring a few quick tries at the end of the game to finish up 32-14. All the boys played well, with Jerome standing out as did Lachlan Kelly, Jacko Pryor and John Williams. The boys let themselves down with some silly mistakes, which let Leeton keep in the game. Try scorers were Bo Grace, John and Jerome with John kicking the only goal.

The Jacobs Creek Under 13’s came up against a strong Hay team. The first half was an even contest, with the half-time score being four all.

However, in the second half the CDP Roosters came out strongly and ran away with the game 26-4.

The boys once again all played well together, with Mitch DeMamiel named player of the match.

Try scorers were Ben Hogan with two, Luke Hogan, Mitch DeMamiel, Dustin Wickey, Jamie DeMamiel and Michael Doolan was the goal kicker.

Thanks go to Luke Hogan and Billy Robb, who helped make up the numbers.

The Bendigo Bank Community under 12’s were in the winning circle this week against Leeton.

The boys looked sluggish at the start but eventually got it together and played as a team, with some great passing along the back line to take the game 22-6.

Try scorers were Ben Robertson, Billy Robb, Trey Eldridge, Linden Gibbs and Dylan Neal with Peter Bumbled kicking a goal.

Shawn Idles tackled well and Charlie Black and Jack Burnett made some good ground with strong running.

Junior League has a two week break over the school holidays and will recommence on Saturday, May 3 at Leeton.
