ONE of Coleambally’s most longstanding sporting competitions is in dire threat of discontinuing if a show of support is not given at next Tuesday’s annual general meeting of the Coleambally Tennis Club.
In years gone by the tennis club and night competitions were most popular, with over 100 people playing in the various competitions throughout the
year.
In February this year, however, the winter competition was cancelled due to a lack of registrations and interest.
So far the annual general meeting has already been rescheduled several times due to a lack numbers in attendance making it impossible to form a quorum.
The next competition is due to start in mid September and nominations are needed before next week’s meeting.
The mixed social competition has always been a great social evening for the community, while offering a chance to air the competitive spirit.
All players are graded with everyone welcome from the top grade through to the novice tennis players.
All players are placed in teams and play three games per night, commencing at 7.30pm.
Supper is provided to all players and membership fees are always kept low.
For those people who cannot commit to playing on a weekly basis, subs positions are available and always needed.
The club is urging everyone who is interested in playing to come along to the AGM on Tuesday at the community club at 7pm to ensure the club and the competition continue.
