Kevin Rudd in hospital

30 Jul, 2010 03:54 PM
Kevin Rudd has been admitted to hospital for an operation to have his gall bladder removed but has promised to campaign to help Julia Gillard whhen he is released.

Mr Rudd’s office released a statement this afternoon saying the former prime minster would be happy, upon his release, not just to campaign in his seat of Griffith but across Australia to help Ms Gillard.

Mr Rudd will have the operation later today, the statement says.

‘‘Mr Rudd’s doctors advise he is likely to be in hospital for a couple of days before returning home,’’ it says.

‘‘Mr Rudd looks forward to resuming campaign activities next week – both in his own electorate, elsewhere in Queensland and the rest of the country as appropriate – in support of the re-election of the government and Prime Minister Gillard.’’

His intention to help Ms Gillard represents a thawing of relations between the two and follows a report in today’s Herald that Labor badly needed Mr Rudd to help the campaign in Queeensland, where the party's popularity is suffering.

So folks lets put the knives away and hold back on the bile. The man is probably undergowing an operation as I type. I wish the former PM well and a speedy recovery. To Terese and his family, your husband and father is a man who will get through this setback.

Let's see a politician try staying at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. Maybe then we will see some serious redevelopment. Party politics plays its part but once elected government is supposed to represent everyone. Funding is supposed to be for all not just those safe or marginal seats.

Poor Kevin,it hasn't been a good couple of weeks but I've found bad luck usually travels in three's....last week it was knives in the back...this week it's knives in the side....hopefully on election day it's not a kick in the seat of the pants.

Good on you Mr Rudd. I believe you are a man of integrity who understands that this is not all about you but the good of the country. The last thing that we need is a Liberal government still stuck on John Howard's elitist, divisive and classist (if that's a word) policies that would see good decent citizens in this country treated like serfs of medieval Britain simply because they are ordinary workers and not high flying business people. I wish you and your party all the best in the upcoming election. The labor party has my vote.
