A NEW monument will be erected in place of Darlington Point’s iconic town clock, which was damaged during a truck rollover on the Point’s main street 18 months ago.

A B-double truck, laden with oats, rolled at the site on January 7, 2011, bringing down a power pole, dislodging some brickwork from the Punt Hotel and damaging the historic clock.
Council has been battling the truck company’s insurance provider since the incident in a bid to pay for the damaged clock.
At the last Murrumbidgee Shire Council meeting, councillors resolved to create a public artwork in place of the clock and place it at a different location.
South West Arts has been selected to manage the project.
“It will not be placed at the same site because it was deemed too much of a risk,” council general manager Carolyn Upston said.
