That is certainly the case when it comes to the Darlington Point Spring Festival.
A drastically depleted battalion of community-minded individuals has been working industriously to ensure this year’s festival goes off without a hitch.
Town Life chairperson Councillor Robert Curphey said anyone interested in joining the committee would be most welcome.
“We have a committee of four people and we do the best we can, but we’re always looking for new members,” Cr Curphey said.
“(New members) brings in new, fresh ideas.
“When you’ve got such a small group organising the event, you just need to consolidate and keep things going and keep it entertaining.”
As well as new committee members to help organise the annual community event, they also need volunteers on the day to help greet people at the gates, collect the gold-coin donation upon entry and just help out with little jobs here and there.
Proceeds go towards organising the next year’s event.
All the usual fun is on offer – the vintage car and motorbike show, emergency vehicles, live entertainment and raffles.
There is always a bevy of activities for the kids, with jumping castle, train rides and face painting.
A scrumptious array of food, including barbecue will be available for purchase, along with drinks.
This year’s event has about 80 market stalls for people to wander through and explore.
The event also showcases much of the local produce the community has to offer.
Cr Curphey said the festival was able to attract a good number of market stalls because, as a council-run committee, it takes care of the public liability to cover everyone.
“It opens it up to the whole community to be involved,” Cr Curphey said.
Scheduled for Saturday, September 20, the Darlington Point Spring Festival promises to be another fantastic celebration of Spring.
