In front of a large crowd of supporters the side played the Northern Jets in the preliminary final. The Jets had defeated the Coly side in their last two meetings, so the junior Blues went into the game with the attitude of giving it everything – as they had nothing to lose and that was how they played the game.
From the outset, Coly stamped its authority on the match with shooters Cilla Bellato and Grace Tooth dominating in the circle, giving their opposition little opportunity to get the ball.
With a narrow two-goal lead going into the final quarter, coach Kate Jones asked the girls for 10 minutes of good strong netball and they delivered, taking the win 26 to 17.
Giaan Cullen effectively controlled the centre court with assistance from the wing in Millie Rossato, Paige Goudie, Georgina McConachy and Izzy Pretty.
The defenders Laura Mannes and runner-up best and fairest Sally Foster kept the Jets shooters quiet, the girls continuously rebounded and intercepted the ball sending it down court to our shooters.
The Coleambally Football and Netball Club wanted to congratulate the team, their coach Kate Jones, who was named coach of the year for under 13s, and manager Nickolle Cullen on their outstanding effort and wished them all the best.
The game against Leeton-Whitton is in Narrandera on Saturday, August 27 starting at 12pm.
