It is a vital piece of his family’s history, which he will celebrate this weekend at the town’s centenary.

Mr Boag was born in Griffith and raised in Coleambally but moved to Sydney before he knew about his family’s history in the area.

It was not until he ironically started working at the Australian Beer Company, which manages the Yenda brand, that he realised his connection.

Mr Boag’s great grandfather, William Boag, started one of the original Yenda farms next door to where the brewery currently sits.

His grandfather, Joe Boag, met his wife Rose on the neighbouring property when she was visiting from Sydney.

Mr Boag’s father and his siblings were raised in Yenda and this weekend’s centenary will serve as a reunion for the family.

“Dad still talks about the old times in Yenda,” Mr Boag said.

“Yenda is synonymous, to me, about country Australia.

“When the people found the town 100 years ago it was literally in the middle of nowhere … it shows we can make the most of it.”

Yenda Beer is brewing 500 bottles of a limited edition centenary beer that cannot be brought but will be distributed to select people and venues.
