A 28-year-old man who was arrested a short time after the Saturday night incident was taken to Wagga Police Station on Sunday morning after being treated for head injuries at Wagga Rural Referral Hospital.
The man was charged with affray and was refused bail to appear in Wagga Local Court on Monday.
A second man, 29, attended Wagga Wagga Police Station just before midnight where he was arrested.
The man was charged with assault cause death by person 18 years or more, intoxicated; and affray. He was also refused bail to appear in Wagga Local Court on Monday.
Officers from Wagga Local Area Command continue to appeal for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
12pm: A 28-year-old and a 29-year-old are being held in police custody after an Ashmont man was delivered a fatal blow on Saturday night.
One man will be charged with “coward punch”, affray and likely assault causing death.
The other will be charged with just affray.
9am: A MAN has been killed in an Ashmont car park overnight after a violent assault.
Police are appealing for witnesses after reports a fight allegedly broke out around 9.45pm in the car park of the Ashmont Inn on Tobruk Street.
Paramedics arrived and attempted to perform CPR on an unconscious 34-year-old man, who later died at the scene.
Detectives arrested a 28-year-old man a short time later at a home on Marshall Street, Ashmont, who was then taken to Wagga Hospital under police guard.
He was treated for a head injury and remains there under the supervision of officers.
Police suspect he had some involvement in the clash.
A 29-year-old man also attended Wagga police station shortly after 11.30pm to assist detectives with their inquiries.
A crime scene has since been established and examined by forensic specialists.
