The work to build two new courts and install seating and lighting has been made possible thanks to a massive injection of $204,500 to Jerilderie Netball Club from Murrumbidgee Council’s Community Infrastructure Fund. The club was one of the biggest recipients of the grants. 

Murrumbidgee Council Administrator, Austin Evans said it was great news for the many netball teams and schools using the courts each week.

“The removal of the old netball courts and the construction of the two new ones will allow for greater use by local players,” he said.

“These courts are an essential asset to the town, they provide an avenue for fitness and they contribute to the social fabric of the community.”

The old courts were suffering from significant cracking and were not compliant with Netball Victoria safety regulation.

Mr Evans said the improvements would benefit the whole town, with upgrades allowing the Jerilderie Netball Club to host the 2018 Picola League Grand Final.

“These new courts will provide an economic boost and will encourage participation in a safe environment for our current and future players,” he said.

The Jerilderie Netball Club courts are one of 11 projects announced by Council to receive funding under the $9 million Community Infrastructure Fund.

Some of the other projects given the green light include an upgrade to the Central Coree Community Hall, Kerbing and sealing of driveway and car park for the Balmeringa Senior Citizens Committee in Jerilderie and the installation of exercise stations around Lake Jerilderie.

There will be more funding opportunities available to local groups within the Murrumbidgee Council area after the February 2017 Council Meeting.
