The Arsenal Soccer School will roll into Leeton on the weekend to conduct a two-day camp for youngsters in town and from across the region.
Leeton United Football Club president Rod Harrison was excited by the prospect and said former Arsenal coaches could be part of the line up on the day.
“We could also possibly expect an ex-player, even if it’s from a lower Arsenal grade … we’re in the process of trying to confirm all of that now,” he said.
“I would say there will be some very excited kids there on the day.
“If they aren’t Arsenal fans already, I’d say they probably will be by the end of the weekend.”
The clinic is open to both boys and girls aged six to 14 and participants from across the wider region have been invited to take part.
The camp was able to come to Leeton thanks to a connection of Harrison’s.
“I have a good friend that was part of organising these clinics and bringing them out to Australia, mostly in Victoria,” Harrison said.
“He now works as a community development officer with Melbourne Victory … we discussed it about a year ago and it’s all gone from there.
“It’s a great opportunity.”
Participants will learn various skills and techniques throughout the two days.
“There’s a different program each day and the children will go through what’s called ‘grids’ throughout those two days,” Harrison said.
“Each grid will have a different focus.
“They can expect to be learning basic skills and things like foot control, passing, trapping the ball and more.
“Then hopefully when the new season arrives they will be able to put all of that into practice.”
The camp will held at the Leeton town ovals on Saturday and Sunday. Cost per child is $120, which includes a training jersey.
