Heritage Darlington Point has been able to have solar panels installed while the Jerilderie Community Gym has new equipment and the Coleambally Lions Club have a new ride-on mower.
16 solar panels were fitted to the rood of a storage shed recently to provide power to the Darlington Point Museum.
Heritage Darlington Point secretary, Mona Finley said she was happy to see the 4.16kw solar grid costing $6600, funded under council’s Major Project Fund, go in.
“We don’t use a lot of power, but when we looked into it and got a quote we found that it made sense,” she said.
“Given we are a management committee charged with looking after the Museum, it’s community money we are saving.”
Meanwhile, in Coleambally, thanks to the $7500 received under the funding the Lions Club have purchased a new mower to maintain the park.
President Trent Gardiner said it was a well-used area, providing the community and visitors with a park for family barbecues and picnics, social gatherings and a meeting place for community events.
“We sincerely thank Murrumbidgee Council for providing the Lions Club with an asset for the benefit of our community, which in turn means we can use our community-raised funds for future community projects and contributions,” he said.
The $47,000 received by the Jerilderie Community Gym has been used to replace outdated equipment.
Murrumbidgee Council administrator said he was pleased to see the funds making a difference and being put to good use for the communities.
