The issue come just a week after the water was deemed safe for consumption after the towns latest E.coli outbreak.
Concerned resident, James Tougue questioned why the town wasn’t notified the flush was going to take place.
“It raise more questions in my mind about the quality of the town’s water,” he said.
“Why were they in such a hurry to flush the system.”
However, Murrumbidgee Council general manager Craig Moffitt maintains the E.coli outbreak and most recent spate of cloudy tap water are unrelated.
“Flushing of water mains in Darlington Pont is a routine maintenance process (monthly) and is not a result of drinking water boil alert issue,” Mr Moffitt said.
When Mr Tougue contacted council about the quality of the water they told him the flyers were too slow in getting printed so they were unable to warn the town.
“Normally they would give us a weeks notice so we could stock up on drinkable water,” he said.
“I really want to know why it was so urgent to flush the system.”
Mr Tougue has concerns about the level of communication coming from Council following the amalgamation last year.
Since the merger took place he feels as if Darlington Point has been pushed to one side and the issues like the water quality is just another example.
“We have been having problems similar to this ever since the boar went down about a decade ago,” he said.
“I just wonder what happens if one day something gets into the water supply undetected. There would be a massive health crisis in the town.
“I think it is time to seriously consider a water treatment plant.”
Mr Moffitt said the newly-formed council recently embarked on an asset condition assessment.
Included amenities including water and sewerage systems for Darlington Point, Coleambally and Jerilderie compiled in conjunction with the NSW Department of Public Works.
“Designs are being finalised for major upgrade works on the Jerilderie Water Filtration System,” Mr Moffitt said.
“When the asset condition work is finalised there will be a list of proposed works presented to council.”
