The start of the season could have been a disaster for Coly with 14 players being unavailable and despite several players doubling up, the club proved to be very competitive.
The A Reserve Team were Coly’s sole victors for the day with a fantastic effort from all members winning by 11 goals after being even at three-quarter time. The umpire’s choice award went to Abbey Young for her consistent effort for the entire match, with the Brolga Voucher going to Jen Ashton. Some of the A Reserve girls returned to the court with a number of key A Graders were absent.
The A Grade game proved to be a challenge for the Coly girls in very warm conditions against a well drilled opposition. The Coly Club’s voucher was awarded to Hannah Buchanan for her efforts in shooting against a very strong EWK defensive duo. Lauren Valenta worked tirelessly in GK and was awarded the Player’s Player Brolga Voucher.
The final score for the C Grade game was EWK 18 to Coly’s 14, with the Umpire’s choice for best on court going to Jina Filmer while the Brolga Voucher for Player’s Player was given to Annie Blackett.
The spectators were surprised to see several returning players take the court when B Grade commenced their game. Effective defence from Kate Jones and Di Chirgwin and attack from Nickolle Cullen and Charlotte Morton kept the side competitive, before EWK crept away to win by four.
