The Monash Park courts and infrastructure valued at $304,000 will be officially opened by Member for Albury, Mr Greg Aplin on Saturday, April 22.
Murrumbidgee Council administrator, Austin Evans said the new courts would encourage people of all ages to participate in sport, providing opportunities for a healthier lifestyle and social well-being.
“This is a major project undertaken in collaboration with the NSW Government, Murrumbidgee Council, the Australian Government and the Jerilderie Netball Club,” he said.
“I invite all members of the wider community to attend the official opening at Monash Park and help to celebrate this wonderful community resource.”
The deterioration of the courts at Monash Park Oval has been a problem over recent years and, as a result of the upgrades, the club will now be able to host the 2018 Picola League Grand Final.
The Jerilderie Netball Club has worked tirelessly to raise funds for the project, which includes the removal and reconstruction of two new courts.
Additional shelter, seating and lighting for players, umpires and spectators was also included as part of the upgrade.
Grant funding from the NSW Government and Murrumbidgee Council under the Community Infrastructure Fund, with additional funding provided by the Australian Government, has seen this project completed.
Jerilderie Netball Club field four junior and four senior netball teams in the Picola and District Football Netball League.
According to council, the courts are an essential asset to the town and are regularly used not only by the netball club but also by the two local primary schools.
