Kenna becomes the latest premiership player to return to Narrandera, heading back to his home club after three stellar seasons in the Farrer League with Coleambally.
Kenna, 27, won the Farrer League’s Player of the Year award, voted by the coaches, in 2014 and was a key figure in the Blues’ climb up the ladder over the past three years.
Ultimately, the travel became too much for Kenna and he informed both clubs of his decision after attending a Coleambally training session last week.
“It’s the travel after three years of being out there,” Kenna said.
“Towards the end of last year I was getting a bit sour with the travel. I went out there last week, I wanted to give myself every chance to get motivated to play out at Coly again but the travel was too much.”
Kenna credits his stint at Coleambally for ‘rejuvenating his career’ and said it is a club he will miss.
“I loved it and can’t thank the Coly Footy Club enough for the three years,” he said.
“It turned my footy career around, I was getting a bit sour at Narrandera and heading out (to Coleambally) rejuvenated me.”
After playing in a Narrandera premiership in 2012, Kenna is excited about his return home.
“I’m looking forward to playing back on the local deck,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to playing under Jarred (Lane), there have been good numbers at training and there is a good feeling around the club.”
First-year Narrandera coach Jarred Lane is pleased to welcome a player of Kenna’s calibre back to the club.
"He gives us another mature on-baller which is just what we need,” Lane said.
“With a few young blokes coming through. It'll be great to get him around the club again - he's another local bloke coming back to the club."
The Eagles open their season on Saturday with a trip to Maher Oval to take on Turvey Park, another club looking to improve on last year.
