Murrumbidgee Council General Manager Craig Moffitt said Council is taking a proactive approach to working with existing businesses, and in attracting new investment.
“In Darlington Point we have just started a Land Planning process that will see Council prepare for new growth,” Mr Moffitt said.
Council’s Economic, Tourism and Community Development Manager Gerrie Carr-MacFie, said a recent survey of Coleambally main street businesses indicated a positive outlook and a ‘micro-boom’.
Council says there are also positive signs at Jerilderie with work on Wunnamurra Estate Stage two underway.
“A new business in Art Framing and supplies has now opened in Coleambally.
This means the Brolga Place shopping precinct will be 100 per cent occupied,” Ms Carr-MacFie said.
“A niche butchery, coffee shops, haberdashery and supermarket add to the buzz.
“And in Jerilderie confidence can be seen in the re-brand and investment in the local pharmacy as it increases services under the Terry White Chemmart brand.
“In Jerilderie the IGA Supermarket is leading the confidence charge, with expanded week-end trading hours, the services of an -in- house butcher, and increased staffing levels. These are very positive signs for our communities.”
Thirty-three new blocks are about to hit the market, and Mr Moffit is optimistic the investment will stimulate residential and economic growth.
“One third of residential blocks in the Jerilderie estate have already been sold off-the-plan, and the buyers are keen to commence building.
